Magazine Review – Blitzscales

Today I’d like to review a magazine I just came across. This is a free e-magazine for scale modelers. Yes, I said free! This magazine is produced by Federico Collada of, which is a cool and informative scale modeling blog. Apparently, he has been working on this for some time and is expanding his resources for modelers.

Blitzscales is a well-produced 68 page e-mag that focuses on armor modeling, including reviews, step-by-step builds, walk-arounds and painting and weathering techniques. The stories are easy to follow and the photography stands out in quality and the way they follow the descriptions.

There are also two bonuses included, a printable distressed Hungary flag base and a sheet of 1/35 scale printable Budweiser cartons. These serve as a great way to introduce new modelers to these type of accessories and can liven up your bases or dioramas. The website has tons of these printables.

The magazine does have advertising and features modeling products from different companies, but this is pretty much standard for modeling magazines. The articles show how to use the products in the project at hand, which is useful.

Overall, this is a well-produced effort with lots of useful information and tips that I recommend to any scale modeler. The focus is on armored vehicles, but maybe that will changes in the future. But if AFVs are your thing, be sure to check it out. The magazine can be found here.
